Music

I grew up in a musical household, so naturally I picked it up pretty quick. I started out on the drums, probably around age 3. This is the point where I take a moment to thank my parents for what must have been infinite patience. I started recording my own material in 2004, starting with GarageBand loops on my school-issued iBook G4. As I learned more about melody and harmony, I gained an interest in learning stringed instruments–first bass around 2007, then guitar (and just about anything else with strings) shortly thereafter.

My longest association with a group was from 2012-2015 as bassist with the Mudlarks, a Celtic-folk-rock act in Montreal that’s been around in some form or another since before I was born. These days I mostly play solo instrumentals in a style between folk-baroque and American Primitive, acoustic, with lots of alternate tunings, notwithstanding some digressions into sludgey hardcore punk. At time of writing (August 2025) I have some session work pending release. Watch this space!

My solo material can be found most extensively on my Bandcamp. Through the magic of DistroKid, you can also find select recordings on Spotify, Apple Music, and other services. If you like what you hear, I love to perform (solo or group, studio or live), I don’t get to do it as much as I’d like, and I charge very affordable rates, so feel free to drop me a line at liam.bassford@gmail.com. I currently live in DC.
